2007 University of Hawaii On-Campus Recruting (Sep. 4, 2007)
November 2007 update: our Summer Associate hiring recruiting process is complete, and we are no longer accepting applications for Summer Associates for the summer of 2008.
How to apply - Visit the Career Services office to sign up for our campus visit and to review other materials such as our
firm resume and NALP forms. If you are not able to secure a spot on September 4, please contact Robert Thomas; if there is enough interest, we may schedule further dates towards the end of OCI.
Interviewers - Michelle Shin and Mark Murakami will be interviewing students during
2007 OCI.
What to Bring - A current resume, a copy of your
transcript, a list of references, and a writing sample. The
interviewer may not take these items from you, but may be interested in seeing
them. They may also provide topics for discussion at the interview.
What to Wear - Please wear "business" attire - in
other words, what you would wear for a court appearance (not "business aloha").
Interview Format - Interviews are scheduled for 20
minutes. Of this time, expect an actual interview session lasting between
15 and 20 minutes. The "extra" time is to allow the interviewer to take
notes between candidates while the impressions are still fresh.
What type of interview should you expect?
Anticipate an inquiry into your chosen curriculum, your interests (both scholastic
and extramural), and your professional future. Also be prepared to
discuss your legal writing, your references, and the areas of your professional interest;
however, we do not expect you, at this stage of your legal career, to necessarily have
any firm notions of your areas of practice, and of course we will not hold it against
you if you can't say with certainty in what areas of law you wish to
practice.
Follow ups and "call backs" -
We will let applicants know of our decision shortly after the on-campus interviews. Any call backs will bring the applicant to our Honolulu offices to meet and interview with the rest of the firm.
